Chalzea Xu (She/Her/They) is a New York-based illustrator and alumna of the School of Visual Arts. Since 2019, she has collaborated with publishers, magazines, and new media outlets, bringing stories to life through her vibrant and expressive visual language. Specializing in cover, editorial, and book illustration, Chalzea’s work is distinguished by its rich narratives, dynamic compositions, and evocative character details.

Working across a range of traditional media—including gouache, watercolor, oil paint, and pastel—she creates illustrations that burst with color and movement. Her brushstrokes capture a sense of immediacy and emotion, often likened to stills from a film or fleeting moments caught on camera.

Chalzea’s illustrations have become a favorite for book covers and interior storytelling, praised for their ability to convey depth and emotion.
